Smart home questions, answered
Savant or Control4 — which should I choose?
Both are excellent, and we are certified on both. Savant is the choice for large residences where the interface, personalization and high-resolution audio matter most. Control4 is fast, reliable and flexible, with a huge device ecosystem — a strong fit for retrofits and homes where value and expandability matter. We will recommend one after understanding how you live, not before.
Can I control everything from one app?
Yes. Lighting, shades, climate, audio, video, cameras, door locks, the gate and the intercom all live in one app, on keypads and touchscreens, and through voice if you want it. Scenes like "Good morning" or "Away" run across every system at once.
Will the system still work if the internet goes down?
Yes. Both Savant and Control4 run locally on a controller in your home. Lighting, shades, audio and keypads keep working without an internet connection; you lose only remote access from outside the home until the connection returns.
How do you handle a renovation in a pre-war building?
Carefully, and with your architect and GC from the start. We design wiring paths around the building's structure, coordinate with the electrician on panel locations, and use wireless platforms (Lutron RadioRA 3, Control4) where walls are staying closed. We have done this in co-ops and condos throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Do you work with my architect and interior designer?
Always. We provide floor-plan markups, device schedules, keypad engraving layouts and rack elevations, and we coordinate keypad finishes with your designer so the technology disappears into the architecture.
